Ways to raise money for Break

Michael & Tom Rooneys London Marathon Challenge

Michael Rooney is the Head of Commercial Services at Break and when it came to what he thought he might do to celebrate the charities 50th Birthday the thought of doing his first ever marathon at age 59 was too good (?) to turn down. He got the running bug a couple of years ago and has used it to help him through a particularly challenging time. Michael admits to liking the focus, structure and discipline of the training. He particularly like wet and windy conditions. You can work out if that is in any way ironic.

He put his idea of doing the Marathon to his children, just in case any of them felt they might want to get involved. There was only one place available and Tom, Michael's oldest son will let you work out whether he won or lost!

Tom is the Head of Football and Publishing at Catena Media. He is married to Emily and has two sons Zak and Seb. His logic behind getting involved was how could he turn down the chance to run a marathon with his old man! He also feel very passionately about Break and the work done with vulnerable children, young people and families. His dad has mentioned it a few times!! In general Tom is not a fan of the inequalities in society and is always looking to do what he can to help in some way

They are both sports nuts and have NCFC and the England Cricket team as their two major sporting passions, both are stubborn, determined, competitive, over thinkers and emotional! They do not have a time in mind…………..they just want to get round.

So in conclusion, the bottom line is this is a chance to raise some money for a fantastic Norfolk Charity that not only does incredible work with young people, but also gives the general public a chance to get involved in their work in so many ways. Tom and Michael have chosen to do the marathon as it’s a fantastic way to stay fit, both body and mind, gives them a goal and a challenge to do something they have never done before whilst putting something back into society, everyone wins.

Tom and Michael intend to run the whole route together, so they are keeping an eye on each others progress to ensure they are event compatible! Will there be a glance in the last 100 metres to see who is feeling the freshest? Who knows………let's just get there first.
