Leaps for joy as GoGoCreate launch proves big success

Around 180 people will gather at Pensthorpe Natural Park from participating schools and community groups to see seven leverets and a couple of large GoGoHares launch the GoGoCreate learning project.

164 leverets have been completed and will form a mini trail of their own around Norwich from 2ndJuly – 2ndSeptember. The locations include some clusters at a bespoke gallery space in intu Chapelfield, The Forum Gallery, Castle Mall, the Cathedral and then many independent shops and businesses around the city.

This project is being delivered by Norfolk children’s charity Break in partnership with Wild in Art, and this element is a really important one as it includes a wide range of ages, interests and groups who are located all over Norfolk. The organisations include schools, from Nursery to High School, Colleges, care homes, NHS departments, sports clubs and community groups.

The aim is to use the hare as the common theme and link it with creative activities, sporting, community and fundraising challenges as well as providing hooks into the core national curriculum subjects for schools.

This project would not be possible without the sponsorship from Pensthorpe Natural Park who have an obvious synergy with this type of project.

Jo Artherton, spokesperson from Pensthorpe: ;We’re hoping that our GoGoCreate launch guests will see and experience the variety of what Pensthorpe has to offer during their visit. We are very passionate about inspiring the next generation to become naturalists; the next Chris Packham or Jess French, so we are very keen to encourage groups of children and students to draw inspiration from their visit to Pensthorpe. For example we teamed up with award winning wildlife artists, illustrators and wildlife specialists to develop a series of informative and inspiring habitat stories which are showcased in our new wetland hide, which opened earlier this year and is big enough to hold a class of students – the perfect learning environment for any inquisitive mind!’

The leverets joining the launch at Pensthorpe are:

  1. Harry Hare from Holt Rugby Club,
  2. Star Gazer from Pensthorpe Natural Park,
  3. Derick the 3rd (House of Dale)from Break Rosedale
  4. Dewey from Norfolk and Norwich Millennium Library
  5. Chestnut from Spooner Row
  6. Hare be Nature from West Earlham Junior
  7. Lenny the Leveret from Norwich Lower School

Peter Marron, Co-ordinator for the project: ‘We have been so pleased with the range of creativity, originality and process behind the designs on the leverets and cannot wait to share them with you all. Many of the participants have also been really proactive with fundraising and associated activities around the project, which we are delighted to encourage and support’.

The leverets join a further 50 city hares and 18 moongazers around the county, making this a really accessible trail for the whole of Norfolk. The charity Break, really hope that the trail will provide hours of free entertainment for the whole family this summer.

GoGoHares is brought to Norwich with the help from supporting partners Aspiration Europe, Norwich BID, The Beeston Group, intu Chapelfield and The Norse Group. The trail is also being supported by the: EDP and Norwich Evening news as media partners, Ridgeons as logistics partner, Pensthorpe Natural Park as the GoGoCreate main sponsor, TW Gaze as the auction partner and Jarrold as retail partner.

The main trails run from 24thJune - 8thSeptember and there is one last chance to see all the sculptures together at the Hare Today Gone Tomorrow event on 7 – 10 October outside The Forum, on Millennium Plain, Norwich before the auction on Thursday 11thOctober.
