Launch Event

GoGoHares! launches with a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party.

There were jam tarts all round as crowds of people gathered for a very special Mad Hatter’s Tea Party to celebrate the launch of the new GoGoHares! project for Norfolk.

The colourful characters are set to follow in the footsteps of the GoGoDragons! and the GoGoGorillas! by hopping into the city and county for a charity art trail in 2018.

Children’s charity Break and Wild in Art are once again teaming up for the new project, and they invited everybody to share in the excitement for the event at the The Forum in Norwich today.

GoGo fans were joined by characters from Alice in Wonderland - played by actors from the Maddermarket Theatre - along with a GoGoDragon! and GoGoGorilla! for the special tea party which featured a performance by singer Emma Nuule and the unveiling of some hare artwork by artist Mik Richardson.

Martin Green, Break’s fundraising manager and who is leading the GoGoHare! project, said he had been overwhelmed by people’s responses to the news of the new trail.

He said: “Since the GoGoHares! have been announced social media has been going absolutely crazy and we have been inundated by schools, artists and sponsors wanting to get involved.

“We are really proud to bring GoGoHares! to the county. This is the start of a two-year adventure, working to bring GoGoHares! to the streets of Norwich in 2018 and throughout Norfolk - they are going county-wide this time.

“The turn-out of people for the tea party was absolutely amazing. We were really pleased so many people wanted to get involved.”

The trail will be a key part of Break’s 50th anniversary celebrations, and hares have been picked for the sculptures as they are already popular subjects for artists and can also be found in the Norfolk countryside.

Instead of just one basic sculpture for the trail there will be three - two were revealed today and the third will be revealed at a later date.

Fifty sculptures will feature in the trail through Norwich and there are plans to have GoGoHares! dotted around other parts of Norfolk. There will be a GoGoHares! education programme for schools, nursery groups and other organisations.

The EDP, Evening News and Mustard TV are media partners for GoGoHares!

Can you spot all the hares around the county of Norfolk in the summer of 2018?
