GoGoHares hop into action today

They are finally hare!

This morning all 50 hares have sprung up across Norwich, with 18 more scattered around the county to form the most extensive GoGo trails yet.

Each of the 50 city hares represents a year in the life of children’s charity Break.

And of the 18 county ‘Moongazer’ hares, one had a very special arrival.

Warden Willow was delivered to its home at Salhouse Broad by taking a trip on a wherry on Sunday.

Helen Vinsen, of the GoGoHares team, said: “This has been two and a half years in the making after we launched in June 2016.

“It has been a really popular, iconic animal to choose. People are loving that it is a local, indigenous creature. They have been lovely for the artists to work with because there is a wonderful synergy and lines with the hares which they have all found really attractive.

“The sun is shining, families are out having a lovely time getting fit while enjoying the art.

“In the 50th year of Break these trails are such a brilliant thing for a charity which is all about families.

“People have genuinely seemed to be counting the days off for this to start. We are really touched by the amount of people who have followed us through the journey.

“It is a huge project. We have had people contacting us saying they have booked holidays in Norfolk to come and see the hares.“What is lovely about this year is we have extended the trail out from Norwich.

“The trail outside in Norfolk includes 18 hares so people can go by bus or train, and some of them are cyclable.”

Running alongside the city and county trails there has also been a GoGoCreate learning programme which has given schools, clubs and organisations the chance to create their own leaping leverets that will form another city centre trail from July 2.

The city and moongazer GoGoHares trails will run from June 24 to September 8 and the GoGoCreate trail of leaping leverets will run from July 2 to September 2 in Norwich.

All three trails have been organised by Break and Wild in Art.
